About Me
I firmly believe in dance's ability to forge connections that extend well beyond the stage. Dance is a powerful force that can bring people and purposes together for a greater cause. My own dance journey has profoundly enriched my life, inspiring me to dedicate myself to sharing and learning from others as I cultivate a vibrant community through dance.
I hold a bachelor's degree in dance education from the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Kingston Jamaica. I am currently completing A Master's Degree in Community Dance at Ohio University. My studies in community dance masters' program were instrumental in inspiring the creation of "Dance4yourlife"
What I Do
As a dance educator with over 25 years of experience, I have established a robust network for advancing dance in Antigua and Barbuda. As the founder of The Shiva School of Dance, I leverage this platform to break social barriers and promote a vibrant, diverse cultural dance community. I prioritize creating inclusive dance environments that focus on how students are taught and treated, fostering body positivity through both movement and language. I believe dance should be experienced across all age groups and capabilities. Additionally, as a senior lecturer at the Antigua State College, I facilitate a regional course called CAPE performing arts. This course equips students with essential marketing skills for launching small business ideas in the creative arts industry. I am passionate about making dance accessible to everyone in my community, demonstrating its profound impact on community building and development. As a choreographer and educator, I love teaching Caribbean dance and actively seek to keep learning from other professionals in the field, enriching our collective knowledge and artistry.
I am available to teach workshops, host seminars and collaborate with other professionals working towards diversifying the way dance serves our communities.
